Distance Calculator

Free distance formula calculator for two points (x₁,y₁) and (x₂,y₂): d = √[(x₂−x₁)²+(y₂−y₁)²]. Instant 2D Euclidean distance in your browser—ideal for algebra homework and coordinate geometry, no login.

How does this distance calculator work?

Enter coordinates for two points. The tool computes the Euclidean distance √[(x₂−x₁)² + (y₂−y₁)²] after you click Calculate. Keep x and y in the same unit so the result is meaningful.

What is the distance formula?

For points (x₁,y₁) and (x₂,y₂), distance d = √[(x₂−x₁)² + (y₂−y₁)²]. It is the Pythagorean theorem applied to the horizontal and vertical runs between the points.

Does it support 3D distance?

Not in this MVP. Only the 2D plane formula is implemented. Add a z term yourself for three dimensions, or request a future extension.

What units should I use?

Any consistent length unit—meters, feet, or graph-paper squares. Mixing units without converting first produces a meaningless number; use Unit Converter or Square Footage tools when plans mix systems.

How is this related to slope?

Distance uses both Δx and Δy under a square root. Slope uses the ratio Δy/Δx. Sibling tabs link to Slope Calculator and Quadratic Formula Calculator in the math-geometry cluster.

Is data uploaded?

No. Calculations run in your browser. Coordinates are not stored as uploaded file content for analytics.

Is this calculator free?

Yes. Free with no login required on Power Tools.
