Split PDF

Split PDF pages by custom ranges or export every page as a separate file—all processing stays in your browser.

How do I enter page ranges?

Use comma-separated segments and hyphens for spans. Examples: "1-3" extracts pages 1 through 3; "1,5,9" extracts three separate ranges; "2-4,8-10" creates two output files. Page numbers are 1-based and must fall within the total page count shown after upload.

What does the "every page" option do?

When enabled, the tool ignores the range field and splits the PDF into one file per page. A 12-page document produces 12 downloads named document-part-1.pdf through document-part-12.pdf. This is useful for splitting scanned batches or sharing single pages without manual range typing.

How many files will I receive?

Each comma-separated range group becomes one output PDF. Entering "1-5,6-10" yields two files. Every-page mode yields one file per page. All parts download automatically when splitting finishes.

Why do I see an invalid range error?

Common causes: a page number exceeds the document length, reversed ranges like "5-2", empty input when every-page mode is off, or typos such as double commas. Check the displayed page count and use only digits, commas, and hyphens.

Can I merge split parts again later?

Yes. Split PDF only extracts pages; it does not delete your original upload. Downloaded parts are normal PDFs you can recombine with Merge PDF in any order. This workflow helps when you need to email chapter-sized chunks, then assemble a reviewer copy locally without re-uploading sensitive data to cloud merge services.

Is my PDF uploaded to a server?

No. Splitting runs entirely in your browser. The PDF bytes are never transmitted to Power Tools servers.

Need PDF to images, images to PDF, or text extract?

Use sibling tools on this site: PDF to Images (PDF to PNG/JPG), Images to PDF (JPG/PNG to PDF), and PDF Text Extractor for plain-text convert-PDF-doc style extracts. Pair with Merge, Split, or Compress PDF for a full browser-local toolkit—no uploads.

Is this tool free?

Yes. Split PDF is free with no login and no limits on the number of splits.

How do I specify page ranges when splitting?

Use the range controls shown in the UI (for example pages 1–3 or a single page extract). Double-check 1-based page numbers against the viewer in your PDF reader—cover pages and blank separator pages often shift the numbers people expect.

Should I extract pages or split into equal parts?

Extract when you need a precise chapter or signature pages. Equal splits help when a portal caps pages per upload. After splitting, rename outputs clearly (chapter-02.pdf) before sharing so recipients can reassemble order without guessing.
