PDF Text Extractor

Extract plain text from PDF in your browser and download as .txt. Layout is not preserved—ideal for search, quotes, and drafts.

Does extraction preserve formatting and columns?

No. Output is plain text. Multi-column layouts, tables, and footnotes may reorder. Use this for quotes, search, and drafting—not for pixel-perfect Word conversion.

Is this a PDF to Word converter (DOC/DOCX)?

It covers the common "convert PDF doc / PDF to Word" search intent for getting editable text out of a PDF, but the download is plain UTF-8 .txt—not a formatted .docx. Paste into Word or Google Docs if you need styling afterward. Scanned image-only PDFs need OCR elsewhere first; this tool does not run OCR.

Can it read scanned (image-only) PDFs?

Image-only scans without a text layer usually yield little or no text. Run OCR in another app first, or re-export a searchable PDF from your scanner software, then extract here.

Do password-protected PDFs work?

Encrypted files must be unlocked before extraction. Save an unprotected copy in a PDF reader, then select that file here.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Parsing runs in your browser. Prefer this for contracts and research PDFs you would not upload to online converters.

What file do I download?

A .txt file with extracted text. Open it in any editor, or paste into Word / Google Docs if you need formatting afterward.

I need a real DOCX—what should I use?

This tool focuses on text extraction, not full PDF→DOCX layout conversion. For combining files use Merge PDF; for size use Compress PDF. Dedicated desktop converters handle complex layout better.

What text encoding does the downloaded .txt use?

The download is UTF-8 plain text, which preserves most Western and CJK characters from modern PDFs. If an older PDF embeds odd legacy fonts, rare glyphs may appear as replacement characters—open the source PDF side by side to verify names and symbols.

What happens to tables and bullet lists?

Rows and columns collapse into plain lines—cell order may not match the visual grid. Bullets lose indentation unless you re-add markers in a text editor. For structured data, copy tables manually from the PDF reader or use a spreadsheet export from the source application instead of relying on extraction alone.

Is PDF text extraction free?

Yes. Free with no login or watermarks.
